TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) has reported that the death toll from the train collision at Bekasi Timur Station has risen to 15, with 88 people still receiving medical treatment.

“As of 01:00 PM, there were 15 fatalities and 88 people still under medical care,” AHY said during a visit to the site on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.

He explained that joint rescue teams have now evacuated all victims who were previously trapped inside the train carriages, including three passengers who were earlier reported stuck and are currently being treated in hospital.

“It can be said that everyone has been successfully evacuated, removed from the carriages that were struck last night,” he said.

AHY added that response efforts are now focused on victim recovery and the restoration of railway operations at the affected site. The process of lifting and clearing damaged train carriages, including commuter line (KRL) units involved in the crash, is still ongoing.

He also said the government will conduct a full evaluation of the railway system, particularly safety standards at level crossings. A comprehensive investigation will be carried out by the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) to determine the exact cause of the accident.

“We will investigate, and the KNKT will conduct a comprehensive investigation to determine the exact cause of this incident,” he said.
