BMKG Forecast Drizzles in Jakarta as Australian Monsoon Strengthens

Sedang Trending 1 jam yang lalu

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasts rain potential for nearly all of Jakarta today, Monday, May 11, 2026. The drizzly weather is expected for mainland Jakarta, with the exception of the Seribu Islands, which will be seeing cloudy skies all day today.

BMKG has announced a similar weather forecast for regions surrounding Jakarta. Today's rain is likely to be light for all areas except for the Bekasi Regency.

Meanwhile Bogor, Bekasi, Tangerang, Depok, South Tangerang, and the entire Tangerang Regency all are expecting light rain potential.

BMKG previously stated that the Australian Monsoon is getting stronger in a weekly weather outlook for May 8-14. "The chance of rain is slowing down but vigilance remains necessary across some parts of Indonesia," the weather agency said.

"Several regions are advised to remain cautious of the increase in moderate to heavy rainfall, especially during the period of May 11-14. Two of these regions are Banten and West Java," it said.

Rain potential remains due to a number of contributing factors. The Madden-Julian Oscillation activity identified through spatial filtering is predicted to pass through most of Sumatra, Kalimantan, Java, Bali, Nusa Tenggara, Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua.

Additionally, the eastward-moving Kelvin Waves are also predicted to be active on the eastern coast of Sumatra, Riau Islands, Bangka Belitung, Lampung, Kalimantan, Java, Bali, Nusa Tenggara, Sulawesi, Maluku, North Maluku, and Papua.

Similarly, the active Equatorial Rossby Waves are predicted in some areas of East Nusa Tenggara, southern part of Sulawesi, Maluku, and the western coast of Papua. "The presence of these atmospheric disturbances potentially increases the formation of rain clouds in the aforementioned regions," said BMKG.
