Death Toll Rises to 14 in Bekasi Train Crash, 84 Injured

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The number of victims in the train crash involving Argo Bromo Anggrek train from Gambir to Surabaya Pasar Turi and the Commuter Line or the Electric Rail (KRL) train heading from Kampung Bandan to Cikarang continues to increase. The incident occurred at East Bekasi Station, Bekasi City, Indonesia, on Monday, April 27th, 2026, at around 20:57 WIB (Western Indonesian Time).

The President Director of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), Bobby Rasyidin, stated that the number of casualties due to the accident has increased to 14 people. "The deceased have been taken to the RS (Hospital) Polri Kramat Jati for further identification process," said Bobby in his statement on Tuesday, April 28th, 2026.

Meanwhile, the number of injured casualties, both minor and severe, has also increased to 84 people. All victims have been evacuated to various nearby health facilities for further medical treatment.

The belongings of the passengers who were victims in the incident have also been secured by the authorities. The inventory and management of the items will be carried out in coordination with the police to support further identification processes.

All the deceased and injured victims are known to be passengers of the Commuter Line train. Meanwhile, all 240 passengers of the Argo Bromo Anggrek train have been successfully evacuated unharmed.

Previously, the Vice President of Corporate Communications at PT KAI, Anne Purba, mentioned that the number of fatalities in the incident reached six people. "There were 80 people injured," said Anne in a written statement on Tuesday, April 28th, 2026.

The incident started when the KRL train was stopping at platform 1 of East Bekasi Station. The train stopped due to a disturbance caused by a collision with a taxi. Shortly after, the Argo Bromo Anggrek train approached from behind and collided with the KRL train. The collision caused damage to the female-only coach of the Commuter Line.

The Ministry of Transportation has coordinated with relevant parties regarding the incident. "We will leave the investigation of the cause to the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) for a more in-depth investigation," said the Minister of Transportation, Dudy Purwagandhi.
