Heavy Rainfall Expected to Decline in West Java This Week: BMKG

Sedang Trending 2 jam yang lalu

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasts a decline in rainfall across West Java between May 25 and 31, 2026, although localized heavy rain and thunderstorms may still occur early this week.

Rossian Nursiddiq, a weather forecaster at BMKG’s West Java Climatology Station, said several atmospheric conditions continue to support increased moisture supply and convective cloud formation in parts of the province.

“Sea surface temperatures remain relatively warm in several Indonesian waters,” Rossian said in a statement on Sunday, May 24.

BMKG warned that moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning and strong winds could occur locally and briefly on Monday and Tuesday, May 25-26.

Areas with potential for moderate to heavy rain on Monday include Bogor Regency and City, Depok, Bekasi, Sukabumi Regency, Cianjur, Purwakarta, Subang, Bandung Regency, West Bandung, Sumedang, Cirebon Regency, Indramayu, Majalengka, and Kuningan. On Tuesday, similar weather conditions are expected only in Depok.

Despite the short-term risk of heavy rainfall, BMKG said there were currently no early warnings for meteorological drought or extreme rainfall based on its May 21-30 forecast.

Around 80 percent of West Java is expected to experience moderate rainfall during the final 10 days of May, with precipitation ranging between 50 and 150 millimeters.

Only around 1 percent of the province, particularly areas surrounding Bogor City, is forecast to record high rainfall intensity of between 150 and 300 millimeters.

Meanwhile, about 19 percent of West Java is categorized as a low-rainfall area, receiving less than 50 millimeters of rainfall over a 10-day period. These areas include parts of the province’s northern coastal region, known locally as Pantura, covering Bekasi Regency, Karawang, Subang, Indramayu, and Cirebon City and Regency.

Looking ahead to June, BMKG predicts that 61 percent of West Java will experience low rainfall, particularly in the northern coastal, central, and eastern regions.

The remaining 39 percent, including western areas such as Bogor, Sukabumi, parts of Cianjur, and the southern regions of Garut, Tasikmalaya, and Pangandaran, are expected to receive moderate rainfall.

By July 2026, BMKG forecasts that 92 percent of West Java will fall into the low-rainfall category, increasing to 100 percent in August as the dry season intensifies.
