TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Production readiness of the Bobibos biofuel in Timor Leste has reached 70 percent. Bobibos (an abbreviation for Bahan Bakar Original Buatan Indonesia, Bos! which means 'Original Indonesian Fuel, Boss!') is claimed to be an alternative fuel with a high octane value of up to 98, and yet more affordable than gasoline.
Founder of Bobibos biofuel, Iklas Thamrin, revealed the progress of mass production preparation in Timor Leste when contacted on Sunday, April 26, 2026. He mentioned that the chemical processing machine transport trucks for converting straw into bioethanol, which were brought from Jonggol, Bogor Regency, West Java, have arrived at the plant in the country.
"It has been operating for the past week. We are just waiting for it to be finished, and then the bioethanol will be matured into fuel," Iklas said, adding, "It can be said that 70 percent of our mass production preparation is already in place there."
According to Iklas, if the first production test successfully produces Bobibos as expected, the next step is to build a plant with the support of chemical processing machines capable of producing 1.8 million liters each month. This collaboration is established between PT. Inti Sinergi Formula (Bobibos developer) and Timor Agranova SA (a local company appointed by the government of Timor Leste).
Iklas explained that the first production process uses machines with a maximum bioethanol production capacity of 500 liters. The raw materials, straw, are already sourced in Timor Leste. "The straw produced by farmers there will become our raw material supply in Timor Leste," Iklas said.
Previously, on December 23, 2025, Timor Agranova SA engaged PT. Inti Sinergi Formula and signed a memorandum of understanding for mass production of Bobibos. The reason being that Timor Leste has 87 thousand hectares of rice fields, considered as abundant raw material sources for Bobibos.
"Thus, with the available resources, Timor Leste and its government have invited us to cooperate in developing and producing Bobibos there. With a target of 50,000 liters per day or 1.8 million liters per month at a more affordable price for its people," expressed Iklas.
