TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Minister of Communication and Informatics Meutya Hafid said the Ministry of Communication and Digital will hold a special meeting with representatives of the Wikimedia Foundation to discuss the platform’s compliance with the obligation to register as an Electronic System Provider (PSE). The Wikimedia Foundation operates Wikipedia.
The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 23, 2026, one day before the government’s deadline. If Wikimedia fails to register by Friday, April 24, 2026, Wikipedia risks being blocked in Indonesia.
“Regarding Wikimedia, there will be a meeting tomorrow. There will be a summons tomorrow. We will inform the updates later,” Meutya said at the Ministry of Communication and Digital office in Jakarta on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.
Previously, Wikipedia received an ultimatum from the ministry for not fulfilling the requirements for registering as a private-scope PSE under Indonesian regulations. Since late 2025, the government has urged the global platform to comply with the rules, while providing extensions until early April 2026.
However, until now, the Wikimedia Foundation is considered to have not shown sufficient good faith in fulfilling its obligations as regulated under Minister of Communication and Informatics Regulation No. 5 of 2020 on Private Electronic System Providers.
The Ministry of Communication and Digital issued another ultimatum on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, before taking further firm steps in accordance with applicable regulations.
Under the rules, unregistered PSEs may face administrative sanctions ranging from written warnings to access termination or service blocking.
