TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Imam Khomeini International Airport in Tehran resumed a number of international flight routes on Saturday, April 25, 2026, according to Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB, as reported by Anadolu.
The first departing flights were bound for Istanbul, Muscat in Oman, and Medina, marking the first movement of foreign passengers in weeks.
The resumption came after Imam Khomeini Airport City CEO Ramin Kashef Azar said on Friday that international passenger services would restart on Saturday, as reported by the Iranian Labour News Agency (ILNA).
“All infrastructure and navigation systems are fully operational, and there are no issues for conducting flights,” he said.
During the ceasefire period, the airport remained open for cargo operations, while foreign airlines relocated their aircraft, he added.
The reopening follows a ceasefire that halted hostilities between Iran and a US-Israeli coalition, with diplomatic efforts continuing under Pakistan’s mediation.
Air traffic had been largely disrupted since a joint US-Israeli strike on Iran on February 28, which prompted retaliatory action from Tehran.
The ceasefire, in place since April 8 and brokered by Pakistan, has so far held.
Washington and Tehran held talks in Pakistan two weeks ago, with efforts underway to arrange another round of negotiations.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi was in Islamabad on Saturday, while US presidential envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner also traveled to the Pakistani capital.
However, prospects for resuming direct talks between the United States and Iran in the near term remain slim, with key sticking points including the Strait of Hormuz, US restrictions on Iranian ports, and Tehran’s enriched uranium program.
