TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung accompanied Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka to review the construction progress of MRT Jakarta Phase 2A, spanning from Bundaran HI to Kota, on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. The inspection covered several key points, beginning at Sawah Besar Station and concluding at Harmoni Station.
Pramono stated that construction on the line has now reached approximately 59 percent completion. According to a report from PT MRT Jakarta, the commissioning phase is slated to begin in mid-2027, with the operational target for the Harmoni segment set for no later than the end of 2027.
"We reviewed the locations from Sawah Besar to Harmoni. Overall, construction progress has reached approximately 59 percent," Pramono said in an official statement on Tuesday.
He added that the ongoing development toward the Kota Tua area is targeted for completion by the end of 2029. Thus, the entire main stretch of MRT Phase 2, covering 22.2 kilometers, is expected to be finalized that same year.
Pramono also mentioned that the provincial government is pushing forward with the East-West MRT project, which is currently in the stages of land acquisition, route determination, and station placement. The first segment of that project is targeted to begin operations in 2030.
During the inspection, Pramono explained that the Sawah Besar and Mangga Besar stations represent the deepest points of construction, reaching a depth of 28 meters below ground level. He also noted that the total project workforce consists of approximately 3,800 people, all of whom are domestic workers.
Meanwhile, Gibran described the project as a collaboration between the central and regional governments through PT MRT Jakarta. "Construction progress has reached about 59 percent. By the end of 2027, the Bundaran HI-Monas line will be connected and operational, with the extension to Kota Station following by the end of 2029," Gibran stated.
He also highlighted the Jakarta Provincial Government's policy of providing free transportation for 15 societal groups, including the elderly and people with disabilities. In his view, the development of safe, comfortable, and integrated public transportation remains a government priority.
"Safe, comfortable, integrated, and modern public transportation will encourage the public to shift away from private vehicles," he remarked.
Gibran emphasized the importance of synergy between the central government, regional authorities, and surrounding agglomeration areas to strengthen urban transportation systems, particularly for vulnerable groups such as children, women, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with disabilities.
