TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Embassy of Japan in Indonesia will once again organize the Jak-Japan Matsuri (JJM) festival at the Gelora Bung Karno Area in Jakarta from October 31 to November 1, 2026.

Deputy Head of the Representative Office of the Embassy of Japan in Indonesia, Hoshino Daisuke, said that this event is the largest annual cultural exchange between Japan and Indonesia. The festival aims to strengthen diplomatic relations between the two countries by promoting soft diplomacy through music performances, Japanese snacks, and art exhibitions.

"This annual event is the commitment of the Embassy of Japan in Indonesia to introduce Japanese culture to the entire Indonesian society," said Hoshino Daisuke at the Tempo office on Thursday, June 11, 2026.

Daisuke mentioned that apart from bringing the JKT48 idol group, they will also invite other performers. For example, last year they also invited singer Dikta. The Embassy is still considering several names for this year's event.

Furthermore, he said that local companies and communities are welcome to collaborate on this event to make the Jak-Japan Matsuri more lively.

"We hope that media colleagues, especially Tempo, can disseminate information about this cultural festival," said the Head of the Representative Office of the Japanese Embassy in Indonesia.

According to him, the embassy represents the Japanese government in cultural exchange missions and encourages the improvement of bilateral relationships.

"It is our responsibility to hold the Jak-Japan Matsuri and provide an opportunity for the Indonesian people to get to know Japan better," said Daisuke.

Today, Hoshino Daisuke, accompanied by the Third Secretary of the Japanese Embassy, Furasawa Ken, visited the Tempo office to discuss Indonesia-Japan cooperation. On that occasion, Daisuke also explained President Indonesia Prabowo Subianto's visit to Japan at the end of March.

Daisuke said that the two countries discussed geopolitical developments, such as the issue of the Middle East War, and economic cooperation with Indonesia. He explained that in early May, Japanese Defense Minister Koizumi Shinjiro and Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin had signed a framework for defense cooperation.
