TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim has condemned Israel for detaining more than 100 humanitarian activists from the Gaza Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) 2.0 on Monday, 18 May 2026.
"The action taken against the humanitarian aid mission not only violates human rights and international law, but also shows the arbitrariness of the Zionist regime in blocking aid access, silencing humanitarian voices, and suppressing anyone who rises to defend and advocate for the Palestinian people," stated Anwar Ibrahim in a statement in Kuala Lumpur as quoted by Antara.
Anwar stated that among the hundreds of detained activists, 16 were from Malaysia.
Malaysia strongly condemns the action and demands safety guarantees and immediate release of all activists.
Anwar emphasized that the world must not continue to submit to oppression. According to him, the oppression of the Palestinian people and those who provide humanitarian aid must be stopped immediately.
"Israel must be held accountable for its actions," stressed Anwar Ibrahim.
This is not the first time Anwar Ibrahim has issued a strong statement regarding Israel's actions against flotilla humanitarian activists. In previous detention incidents, Anwar also directly condemned Israel's military actions against the activists.
Anwar Ibrahim also does not hesitate to engage in dialogue with the leaders of friendly countries in efforts to free the activists.
It should be noted that Israel has detained activists from the flotilla humanitarian vessel en route to Gaza. Among the detained group are Indonesian activists, including two journalists from Republika and one journalist from Tempo TV.
The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, continues to strive to ensure the safety of Indonesian citizens (WNI) participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla to Gaza who have been affected by the interception by the Israeli Zionist forces.
On 29 April, the Israeli forces also attacked the Global Sumud Flotilla fleet off the coast of Crete, Greece.
