TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Seven teachers who appeared in the corruption trial over Chromebook laptops for the 2019-2022 period were initially expected to be the final witnesses for defendant Nadiem Anwar Makarim. The panel of judges at the Jakarta Corruption Court had considered that the exculpatory, or a de charge, witnesses presented by Nadiem’s side were sufficient.
Accordingly, the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology for the 2019-2024 term had been scheduled to undergo questioning as a defendant in the final week of April 2026. But the five judges presiding over the Chromebook case suddenly changed course.
The judges allegedly extended the trial schedule after being reported to the Supreme Court’s Supervisory Body and the Judicial Commission. “So we still have three more opportunities to present witnesses,” said Nadiem’s lawyer, Ari Yusuf Amir, on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.
Testimony from teachers serving in regions ranging from Southwest Papua to West Kalimantan revealed new facts about the use of ChromeOS-based laptops known as Chromebooks. The system is specifically designed by Google and directly connected to the United States company’s ecosystem of features. Nadiem stands trial largely because of this laptop procurement project.
