Prabowo to Recover Rp39tn from Suspected Corrupt Accounts

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto said around Rp39 trillion in funds of unclear origin are currently held in various bank accounts in Indonesia, suggesting the money may belong to corruptors who have fled the country or died.

Prabowo, who also chairs the Gerindra Party, said the funds could have remained untouched in the banking system for years.

“The corruptors or criminals may have left Indonesia or passed away, leaving their money in unclear accounts,” Prabowo said at the Attorney General’s Office in Jakarta on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

He further speculated that some of the funds may be controlled by relatives of corrupt figures without their knowledge.

“Maybe they had many young wives or mistresses, so their wives or heirs do not even know the money exists. It has been left unattended for many years,” he said.

Prabowo said the government would move to take control of such dormant or unclaimed funds.

“If it has been left unattended for many years, and we have announced it for a year without anyone coming forward, then it should be used for the people,” he said.

His remarks came during a ceremony at the Attorney General’s Office where the Forest Area Enforcement Task Force (PKH Task Force) handed over Rp10.27 trillion in administrative forestry fines. The funds were symbolically transferred by Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin to Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa.

The ceremony also included the handover of 2.37 million hectares of forest area reclaimed through enforcement actions. The land was transferred from the Attorney General’s Office to the Finance Ministry before being symbolically handed over to Rosan Roeslani, head of the sovereign investment agency BPI Danantara, and state-owned plantation company PT Agrinas Palma Nusantara.
