TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - United States President Donald Trump said on Friday that he might end the ceasefire with Iran, unless a long-term agreement to end the war is reached on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.
"Maybe I won’t extend it, but the blockade (on Iranian ports) is going to remain," Trump told reporters on Air Force One while returning to Washington from Phoenix, Arizona, as quoted by Arab News. "So you have a blockade, and unfortunately we have to start dropping bombs again."
However, he also told reporters accompanying him on Air Force One to Washington, "I think it’s going to happen," referring to the agreement with Iran.
"We had some pretty good news 20 minutes ago, but it seems to be going very well in the Middle East with Iran," Trump told reporters.
"You’ll hear about. I just think it’s something that should happen. It’s something that only makes sense to happen. And I think it will. We’ll see what happens, but I think it will," Trump said when asked about the good news.
Trump also stated that there are no longer "sticking points" for a peace agreement with Iran, adding that the deal is now "very close."
"We’re very close to having a deal," claimed Trump in a brief phone interview. When asked about unresolved issues, Trump responded, "No sticking points."
