VP Gibran Supports Digitalization and AI-Based Learning in Islamic Boarding Schools

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka received a courtesy visit from the extended family of the Miftahul Huda II Bayasari Islamic boarding school in Ciamis. He expressed his support for the school's digitalization efforts, including the use of artificial intelligence (AI)-based learning.

According to an official statement received in Jakarta on Monday, as quoted by Antara, Gibran met with the Kiai Council of K.H. Iqbal Syihabudin. The meeting was part of President Prabowo Subianto's government's commitment to developing superior human resources by improving the quality of education, including at Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), and by utilizing digital technology.

"He (the Vice President) welcomed us happily, and he has a program for students, including his AI program and today's digital program. He welcomed us enthusiastically because he will be providing guidance at the Islamic boarding school on his program, which he will be implementing directly with the students and the community," Kiai Iqbal said after the meeting.

He said the vice president welcomed various educational initiatives, including the use of digital technology and AI-based learning for Islamic boarding school students and the community.

Furthermore, the Miftahul Huda II Alumni Association (HAMIDU) invited the Vice President to attend their regular alumni reunion. This year's event is scheduled for May 29–31, 2026.

"We at the Islamic boarding school like to hold alumni reunions. It's called the Miftahul Huda II Alumni Association (HAMIDU). Coincidentally, we're holding it at the end of May, on the 29th, 30th, and 31st. A series of events will be held, and we've sent an invitation to the Vice President to provide guidance and foster camaraderie with the students at Miftahul Huda II," explained Kiai Iqbal.

In addition to attending the alumni reunion, the vice president is expected to inaugurate a college that is currently being established as part of the Miftahul Huda II Islamic Boarding School's formal education development.

"Coincidentally, we at the Miftahul Huda II Islamic Boarding School are also in the process of establishing a college. So, we hope the Vice President can inaugurate the An-Nawawi College, which will be launched at the alumni reunion," he said.
