What Looming MSCI Rebalancing Entails for JCI This Week

Sedang Trending 2 jam yang lalu

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Equity Analyst at PT Indo Premier Sekuritas (IPOT) Hari Rachmansyah believes this week's movement from the Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) will be influenced by the rebalancing or adjustment of Indonesian stocks by Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI).

"The MSCI Indonesia rebalancing scheduled for May 12, 2026, is unlikely to bring new entrants, but still has the potential to trigger shifts in stock weights that can affect the overall market direction," says Hari in a written statement on Monday, May 11, 2026.

According to him, MSCI rebalancing has the potential to trigger portfolio rotations that could create short-term volatility in large-cap stocks.

Additionally, Hari warns market players to take notes of royalty rates for copper, tin, nickel, gold, and silver commodities. The changes in tariffs were proposed by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources during a public consultation held on May 8.

According to the analyst, the pressure on the mining sector does not stop at the increase in royalties alone. "Discussions on the implementation of export duties and windfall tax being reviewed by the Ministry of Finance also add a layer of uncertainty, especially for the nickel and coal subsectors, thus the volatility of the mining sector as a whole has the potential to persist in the short term," says Hari.

This week, trading will take place on May 11-13, 2026, with JCI movements expected to be mixed and relativelt limited. He advises investors to remain selective with a trading-oriented approach.
