TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Canada's Ambassador to Indonesia, Jess Dutton, stated that the 2026 FIFA World Cup is an excellent platform to showcase the culture and diversity of Canada. He said, "As Canadians, we see the World Cup as an opportunity to showcase Canadian culture, the diversity of our communities, and to honor Indigenous peoples, whose presence and partnership are integral to the event." He made these remarks during a press conference on June 10, 2026 in Jakarta.
He added that Canada is prepared to receive visitors for the 2026 FIFA World Cup from various parts of the world, emphasizing the values of safety, friendliness, and mutual respect.
Dutton affirmed that his country is ready to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup, whose opening ceremonies are scheduled for this week. Canada is co-hosting the event with Mexico and the United States. Thirteen out of 104 matches will be held in Canada. "Significant investments have been made in the two host cities for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Toronto and Vancouver, to enhance stadium conditions, transportation connectivity, accessibility, and visitor experiences," stated Jess Dutton.
The opening ceremony of the 2026 World Cup in Canada will take place on Friday, June 12, while in Mexico on Thursday, June 11, and in the United States on Saturday, June 13.
He also expressed hope that Canada's recent implementation of electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) for eligible Indonesian citizens would help increase the number of Indonesian visitors to Canada. The 2026 FIFA World Cup, held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19, will feature over 1,200 footballers representing 48 national teams.
The World Cup matches in Canada will take place in two cities, while in Mexico it will be held in three cities and in the US it will be organized in 11 cities. FIFA has confirmed that the Toronto Stadium has been selected as the venue for the opening match on Friday, June 12. In addition to the Toronto Stadium, BC Place in Vancouver will also be another stadium in Canada for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
