
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasts that the weather in major cities in Indonesia will generally be dominated by light to moderate rain on Saturday.
BMKG forecaster Medayu Bestari, in an online broadcast followed from Jakarta on Saturday, as quoted by ANTARA, reported that cities in Sumatra such as Aceh, Medan (North Sumatra), Padang (West Sumatra), Jambi, Pekanbaru (Riau), Pangkal Pinang (Bangka Belitung Islands), and Palembang (South Sumatra) have the potential for light to moderate rain.
Meanwhile, there is potential for heavy rain accompanied by lightning in Tanjung Pinang (Riau Islands), Bengkulu, and Bandar Lampung.
"For Java, light to moderate rain is forecast across major cities such as Serang (Banten), Jakarta, Bandung (West Java), Semarang (Central Java), and Surabaya (East Java). Meanwhile, Yogyakarta will be cloudy," Medayu said.
Furthermore, he said, light rain is forecast for Bali and Kupang (East Nusa Tenggara/NTT), while sunny skies are forecast for Mataram (West Nusa Tenggara/NTB).
On the island of Kalimantan, he continued, light to moderate rain is likely to occur evenly in Samarinda (East Kalimantan), Palangka Raya (Central Kalimantan), Banjarmasin (South Kalimantan), Tanjung Selor (North Kalimantan), and Pontianak (West Kalimantan).
In Sulawesi, heavy rain accompanied by lightning is expected in Manado (North Sulawesi), while light to moderate rain is likely to hit Makassar (South Sulawesi), Palu (Central Sulawesi), Mamuju (West Sulawesi), Gorontalo, Ternate (North Maluku), and Kendari (Southeast Sulawesi).
Lastly, in the eastern part of Indonesia, BMKG stated that the weather is generally predicted to be showered with light to moderate rain, such as in Ambon (Maluku), Sorong (Southwest Papua), Manokwari (West Papua), Nabire (Central Papua), Jayapura (Papua), Jayawijaya (Papua Mountains), and Merauke (South Papua).
He reminded the public to stay alert for potential extreme weather, which could occur at any time.
