Indonesia Economy Seen Stable for 3 Months, Luhut Tells Prabowo

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chairperson of the National Economic Council (DEN) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan has reported to President Prabowo Subianto that Indonesia’s economy is projected to remain stable over the next three months, based on recent economic simulations.

“Based on our comprehensive simulations, the economic outlook for the next three months remains very secure and well maintained. Our economic fundamentals are strong,” Luhut said in a written statement on Wednesday.

However, in line with the president’s directive, the government has prepared a range of anticipatory policy scenarios to mitigate risks if geopolitical tensions persist longer than expected.

One key focus is addressing potential spikes in energy prices, particularly the widening gap between global crude oil prices and domestic fuel prices.

The DEN also stressed the importance of maintaining supply chains for strategic commodities such as sulfur, which is critical to Indonesia’s nickel downstreaming program and the development of its electric vehicle (EV) battery ecosystem.

On fiscal resilience, the government said the state budget will remain within a healthy and controlled range. The fiscal deficit is expected to be kept below 3 percent of gross domestic product (GDP), supported by targeted spending efficiency and optimized revenues from key export commodities such as coal and palm oil.

“The public and business community need not worry. The state budget remains well under control. The deficit will be maintained below 3 percent through prudent spending and by maximizing gains from strong export commodity prices,” he said.

To sustain growth in the real sector, the government plans to accelerate deregulation as a form of non-fiscal stimulus.

Luhut emphasized that removing structural bottlenecks remains a priority, particularly to streamline licensing processes, improve efficiency, and provide greater legal certainty for businesses amid global uncertainty.

He added that the current geopolitical situation should be seen not only as a challenge but also as a strategic opportunity. The government is pushing to accelerate digital transformation in governance (GovTech) and strengthen plans for the development of an Indonesia Financial Center to capture potential shifts in global capital flows.

“We are not only talking about resilience, but also about how to seize opportunities from this situation. Accelerating GovTech and developing the Indonesia Financial Center are key strategies to benefit from shifting global capital flows,” Luhut said.
