TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has given a six-month deadline for its citizens who hold assets abroad to repatriate their wealth. The deadline is set to ensure that asset owners promptly bring back their assets and fulfill their tax obligations.
Purbaya explained that this measure would be strictly enforced without a tax amnesty framework. "We are giving a deadline of 6 months. After that, we will thoroughly examine the matter," he said during a media briefing at the Ministry of Finance in Jakarta on Monday, May 11, 2026.
The former Chair of the Board of Commissioners of the Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) stated that there would be consequences for those who do not comply with this requirement, including restrictions on business access. "So, having money abroad will no longer enable them to do business here," he added.
However, Purbaya did not provide further details about the plan. He only emphasized that proper tax procedures would be followed without offering tax amnesty.
The state treasurer also ensured that the tax amnesty would not continue through the Voluntary Disclosure Program (PPS). He explained that the tax amnesty program had been completed. For taxpayers who had participated, there would be no further collection. Unless there were payment commitments that had been agreed upon but not yet realized.
Previously, there were rumors that the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) would pursue participants of the voluntary disclosure program who had not reported their assets. Purbaya stated that he would reprimand the DJP for such an announcement.
The voluntary disclosure program or tax amnesty was previously regulated in Law number 7 of 2021 concerning the Harmonization of Tax Regulations (UU HPP). The tax amnesty policy had been implemented twice. Initially, it was carried out in 2016-2017. In 2022, the government implemented tax amnesty through the Voluntary Disclosure Program, also known as tax amnesty phase II. Since Purbaya took office as minister, he has repeatedly stated that there would be no continuation of the tax amnesty program.
