TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto had a bilateral meeting with Belarusian Prime Minister Alexander Turchin on Friday, May 15, 2026, in Minsk, Belarus. The two parties discussed the enhancing of trade and economic cooperation, as well as expanding partnerships in various priority sectors.
Airlangga welcomed President Alexander Lukashenko's plan to visit Indonesia in early July 2026. "Indonesia is also ready to welcome Belarusian business delegations to Indonesia as part of the Belarusian president's visit,' he said in a written statement on Friday, May 15, 2026.
He mentioned that preparations for the visit are underway, including resolving several important matters, especially the Work Cooperation Roadmap between Belarus and Indonesia.
According to Airlangga, Belarus holds a significant role in supporting industrialization, food security, and market diversification in Indonesia. Belarus has a strong manufacturing industry base, with the manufacturing sector contributing approximately 20.3 percent to the national GDP in 2024.
Airlangga cited Belarus' expertise in the development of agro-industry and agricultural mechanization that supports national food security, including a self-sufficiency rate of around 96 percent. With Belarus' experience and expertise in agricultural technology, this cooperation is expected to enhance the modernization of Indonesia's agricultural sector and accelerate the achievement of national food security.
Prime Minister Alexander Turchin expressed Belarus' commitment to further strengthen economic partnership with Indonesia and also support the opening of the Indonesian Embassy in Minsk to facilitate the two countries' relations.
The two countries also discussed the Indonesia-EAEU Free Trade Agreement (I-EAEU FTA), which was successfully signed on December 21, 2025, in St. Petersburg.
Indonesia, Airlangga said, believes that the agreement's realization reflects a joint commitment to further strengthen economic cooperation and promote open, inclusive, and mutually beneficial trade partnerships.
