TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto has stated that the technical review process for Indonesia's accession to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) will continue into the second half of this year.
"There is a technical review scheduled for July. Of course, we hope that because this is a sector-by-sector process, it can continue to show progress," Airlangga said in Jakarta on Tuesday, April 21, 2026.
The statement was made following Airlangga's keynote address at an OECD seminar organized by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) and the British Embassy.
During the seminar, Airlangga noted that within 1.5 years, Indonesia has signed at least 27 trade agreements with partners, including the European Union, Canada, Eurasia, and the United Kingdom.
The Golkar Party politician assessed that OECD membership would bolster Indonesia's trade and investment ties amid a climate of global uncertainty.
The OECD is an international organization comprising 38 countries, serving as a multilateral platform for the formulation of economic development policies.
At present, at least three sectors are under review by the OECD: the environment, trade, and digital policy.
Indonesia’s relationship with the OECD dates back to 2007, when the country became a key partner. This status evolved in March 2024, when Indonesia officially became a candidate for accession.
The most recent agreement signed by Indonesia is a reciprocal arrangement with the United States.
Following efforts to open the market with the U.S., Airlangga stated that the Indonesian government is currently addressing several requests, including Section 301 allegations directed at Indonesia. "Indonesia has responded to Section 301," he confirmed.
Airlangga maintained that based on prior experience, Indonesia has implemented regulatory best practices in managing such issues. "I believe this will make our OECD accession more realistic, allowing us to, so to speak, expedite the process," he said.
Airlangga mentioned that the accession process is not solely a government undertaking. He stated that the government is collaborating closely with the business community, specifically Kadin Indonesia, throughout the process.
Over the last three months, Airlangga noted that the government has signed memoranda of understanding totaling approximately Rp1,400 trillion with South Korea, Japan, and the United States. "That accounts for nearly 60 percent of Indonesia's investment target this year. So, in effect, 60 percent has been facilitated by Pak Anindya Bakrie," he added, referring to the Chairperson of Kadin Indonesia.
