TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Awardees of scholarships from the Education Fund Management Institution (LPDP) this year are required to participate in a training program before their departure, which will be conducted by the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI). They will undergo training that includes marching drills, as well as guidance related to strengthening nationalism.
The training will take place at the Halim Perdana Kusuma Air Base, East Jakarta. On Sunday, May 3, 2026, the Head of the Indonesian Air Force Information Service, Air Marshal I Nyoman Suadnyana, told Tempo, "In accordance with the letter addressed to the TNI, in this case to the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, to provide training related to marching drills, discipline, and character strengthening."
Nyoman stated that the LPDP requested the marching drill and nationalism training by the TNI. "The Indonesian Air Force, in principle, is only assisting in providing the venue and instructors as requested by the LPDP, thus it will not deviate from the objectives of the activities," Nyoman said.
According to the activity letter received by Tempo, the training will take place from May 4-9, 2026 at Marsekal Sukardi Building, Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base. The letter records that a total of 206 participants are scheduled to attend the training.
They consist of recipients of scholarships for master's and doctoral programs, for study in the country and abroad. Participants must complete all activities before beginning their studies.
The Head of the Legal and Communication Division of the LPDP, M. Lukmanul Hakim, mentioned that the role of the TNI is limited to accompanying outdoor activities. TNI personnel will guide the outdoor activities, which are part of the training for scholarship awardees.
Despite being held in a military area and involving TNI personnel, Lukman claimed that the agenda is different from national defense training. "The choice of location and the methods of implementation do not change the purpose or content of the training provided," he said, when confirmed on Friday night, May 1, 2026.
