TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) is gearing up to secure and anticipate the explosive World Cup euphoria across Indonesian regions this year.
The Head of the Public Information Bureau of the National Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, stated that the police will scale security plans down to the regional police (Polda) and resort police (Polres) levels.
"The police are obligated to implement security measures to meet the public's enthusiasm, as we will use this as a reference in security planning," Truno said in a press conference at the TVRI Building in Jakarta on Thursday, May 7, 2026.
According to Trunoyudo, the security will be intensified at potential World Cup group viewing locations (known locally as nobar) both commercial and non-commercial.
To create a thorough sense of security, the National Police and TVRI, as the official broadcaster of the 2026 World Cup, will work together to develop top-down security plans.
"Since the nature of this event is entertainment, we believe this became our collective role to secure the joyful atmosphere," he said.
The National Police recognize that the World Cup this year will create a socio-economic phenomenon among residents, thus requiring a sense of security from the state.
Trunodoyo also urged citizens to enjoy the momentum of this quadrennial event while maintaining order.
"This requires collective awareness from all elements, including the group viewing organizers who have registered with TVRI, community leaders, and even sports influencers, especially those in football," he said.
Trunoyudo further urged the public to be wary of fraudulent schemes involving ticket purchases. Victims of fraud are encouraged to report this to the police immediately.
The Indonesian police are also anticipating soccer betting practices during the 2026 World Cup.
The 2026 World Cup is co-hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States, and will run from June to July. As Indonesia's official broadcaster, TVRI plans to host public screenings of the match on 34 regional stations.
