TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Maxim Indonesia said the current maximum commission structure of 15 percent for online motorcycle taxi platforms is an optimal level to ensure the sustainability of the industry.
“This formulation has empirically protected driver partners’ income margins while maintaining fare affordability for consumers,” said Development Director Dirhamsyah in a written statement on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.
He was responding to a government plan to cap the share for ride-hailing application companies at 8 percent, leaving 92 percent for drivers.
Dirhamsyah said Maxim has already implemented a maximum profit-sharing limit and argued that the existing structure strikes a balance between driver earnings and consumer pricing.
“For this reason, we encourage a comprehensive strategic review of the policy to ensure the online transportation industry remains conducive, sustainable, and inclusive for all segments of society,” he said.
He added that the company has not yet received the official legal framework for the proposed policy, namely Presidential Regulation No. 27 of 2026 on the Protection of Online Transportation Drivers.
Maxim, he said, needs to conduct a thorough assessment and carefully review the regulation before issuing projections on its potential impact.
Dirhamsyah also maintained that Maxim’s commission is among the most competitive and lowest in Indonesia’s ride-hailing market.
He emphasized that tariff and commission structures are designed to balance consumer purchasing power with drivers’ income. According to him, restrictive market interventions risk disrupting that balance and could have broader implications for the industry’s sustainability.
Maxim therefore urged policymakers to adopt a cautious approach and engage in inclusive dialogue with industry stakeholders before implementing major changes.
Dirhamsyah warned that uniform policies introduced without comprehensive and participatory consultation could create imbalances in the ecosystem, particularly given the differences in business models, operational structures, and financial capacities across platforms.
The company said it remains open to further discussions and is ready to collaborate constructively with the government.
On driver welfare, Dirhamsyah noted that Maxim has partnered with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan to provide social security coverage, including full insurance protection for drivers with disabilities as part of its corporate social responsibility efforts. The company also works with the Safe Prosperous Driver Foundation (YPSSI) to provide assistance programs.
