Peterborough United Incar Satu Poin Demi Bertahan di League One

Peterborough United menargetkan hasil imbang saat menjamu Mansfield Town di Stadion Weston Homes pada Selasa, 28 April 2026, guna mengamankan posisi mereka di kompetisi League One musim depan. Tambahan satu poin secara matematis akan membuat klub berjuluk The Posh tersebut mustahil terkejar oleh penghuni zona degradasi.

Klub besutan Luke Williams ini berada di peringkat aman dengan selisih tiga poin di atas Exeter City yang menempati zona merah. Selain keunggulan poin, Peterborough juga memiliki keunggulan selisih enam gol dibandingkan pesaing terdekatnya tersebut menurut data klasemen saat ini.

Manajer Peterborough United, Luke Williams, memberikan penghormatan terhadap konsistensi yang ditunjukkan oleh tim tamu dalam kompetisi musim ini.

"We are facing a brilliant team," kata Williams, Manajer Peterborough United.

Williams menilai gaya bermain yang diterapkan Mansfield Town akan menjadi tantangan besar bagi skuadnya, berkaca pada pertemuan mereka sebelumnya.

"I was so impressed with how they played against us earlier in the season. It was the best I’ve seen a team play against us," ujar Williams, Manajer Peterborough United.

Meskipun pernah meraih kemenangan 2-1 pada laga sebelumnya, Williams mengingatkan para pemainnya untuk tetap waspada dan efisien dalam memanfaatkan peluang di depan gawang.

"They were outstanding and yet we won the game thanks to a refusal to let the ball go into our net and because we were ruthless when we had the chance to score, so we know we can beat them no matter how good they are," tutur Williams, Manajer Peterborough United.

Pihak manajemen dan staf kepelatihan ingin segera memastikan status klub tanpa perlu menunggu hasil pertandingan tim lain di pekan terakhir.

"It is hard to believe we are in the position we are, but we are still in control of our own fate and we have to be thankful for that," ungkap Williams, Manajer Peterborough United.

Guna mencapai target tersebut, tuan rumah kemungkinan akan mengandalkan Harry Leonard sebagai penyerang utama yang sudah mengemas 15 gol sepanjang musim ini.

"I want us to be proactive though. I don’t want to see a team crossing their fingers and hoping to get through a game. We have to have the energy to defend and attack correctly in equal measures. We have to run through any uncertainty we have," tegas Williams, Manajer Peterborough United.

Target poin penuh di kandang juga menjadi upaya Williams untuk memberikan kesan positif kepada para penggemar di penghujung musim yang sulit.

"It has been a frustrating season, but we can still create a favourable lasting impression by playing well in our last two home matches," pungkas Williams, Manajer Peterborough United.

Di kubu lawan, Manajer Mansfield Town, Nigel Clough, memprediksi tuan rumah akan tampil terbuka dan menyerang demi mendapatkan poin penyelamat.

"I think they will be quite expansive and attacking. I hope we play as well as we did in the home game," kata Clough, Manajer Mansfield Town.

Walaupun Mansfield Town sudah tidak berpeluang mengejar tiket promosi, Clough menegaskan timnya ingin menjaga rekor tidak terkalahkan hingga kompetisi berakhir.

"We want to stay unbeaten. Our last two games are two teams who can do the double over us and we are conscious of that but it will be lovely to stay unbeaten until the end of the season," jelas Clough, Manajer Mansfield Town.

Kiper Mansfield Town, Liam Roberts, memperkirakan pertandingan akan berlangsung sengit karena kedua belah pihak sama-sama mengusung filosofi permainan ofensif.

"We are going to go for it, absolutely," ujar Roberts, Pemain Mansfield Town.

Roberts menyatakan bahwa motivasi untuk menduduki posisi setinggi mungkin di klasemen akhir tetap menjadi prioritas utama para pemain.

"We want to finish as high up the table as we possibly can," kata Roberts, Pemain Mansfield Town.

Ia juga merasa optimis terhadap arah perkembangan klub menuju musim kompetisi mendatang yang dinilai sangat menjanjikan.

"It’s been a great season but there are games we should have got results in. It is an exciting time to be at the club going into next season, we are going to give it a right go," ucap Roberts, Pemain Mansfield Town.

Duel di Stadion Weston Homes ini diprediksi menjadi laga yang menghibur bagi penonton netral mengingat kecenderungan kedua tim untuk terus menekan.

"They love to go on the attack and we will do the same, it will be a good game for the neutral," tambah Roberts, Pemain Mansfield Town.

Mansfield Town dipastikan bertandang dengan skuat terbatas karena cederanya sejumlah pemain kunci seperti Rhys Oates, Frazer Blake-Tracy, Baily Cargill, Luke Bolton, George Maris, dan Jordan Bowery.
