TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto arrived in Paris on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. Prabowo touched down at Orly Airport at approximately 9:50 a.m. local time, with Cabinet Secretary Lieut. Col. Teddy Indra Wijaya confirming the arrival marks the commencement of the Head of State's official working visit to France.
"The invitation has been on the agenda since last year and went through several reschedulings," Teddy said in a written statement on Tuesday.
According to a press release from the Presidential Secretariat, Prabowo was welcomed at the airport by French Minister of Labor and Solidarity Jean-Pierre Farandou, alongside a ceremonial guard of honor. Furthermore, hundreds of Indonesian nationals had been waiting since morning at the President's hotel to greet him.
Teddy noted that Prabowo’s visit is expected to bolster bilateral ties between Jakarta and Paris. "Indonesia currently shares numerous highly strategic partnerships with France, and this state visit is anticipated to further solidify Indonesia’s position in Europe, particularly within France," Teddy remarked.
Teddy added that relations between the two nations serve complementary roles on the global stage. "Indonesia is one of the primary gateways for European engagement with Asia, while France serves as a vital conduit for Asian, specifically Southeast Asian, relations within the European region," Teddy said.
President Prabowo's trip to France was previously confirmed by Deputy Minister of the State Secretariat Juri Ardiantoro. Juri disclosed the travel plans when questioned about the President's itinerary for Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijri, which falls the following day on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
According to Juri, the President departed for his overseas destination on Monday night, May 25, 2026. "The President left for a working visit abroad last night, bound for France," Juri stated at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
To date, spanning his 19 months in office, Prabowo Subianto has made four state visits to France. Based on Tempo's records, Prabowo previously traveled to France in mid-July 2025, where he attended the Bastille Day Military Parade at the Place de la Concorde as a guest of honor.
Then, in January 2026, Prabowo made a brief stopover of less than five hours in France. The trip followed a series of official visits by the Gerindra Party chair to the United Kingdom and Switzerland.
Prabowo and French President Emmanuel Macron reportedly held a two-and-a-half-hour discussion over dinner, touching upon global issues and France's leadership roles as the host of the upcoming G7 summit.
Most recently, Prabowo visited the Élysée Palace in Paris for a meeting with Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday afternoon, April 14, 2026, local time. The occasion was documented and shared by Prabowo via the official Instagram account @presidenrepublikindonesia.
