TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Colombian pop star Shakira wore a headpiece designed by Indonesian accessory designer Rinaldy A. Yunardi in the music video for “Choka Choka,” her latest collaboration with Brazilian singer Anitta.
“I am happy and proud to once again receive a request from Shakira to wear my work for the third time,” Rinaldy told Antara on Thursday.
The Medan-born designer said he received the request from Shakira’s team about one and a half months ago to create a tiara for the video project. However, the request came without detailed design instructions regarding the style of headpiece desired by the Colombian musician.
“Because there were no detailed directions, I had to study and revisit Shakira’s style through social media and her previous music videos,” Rinaldy said.
He explained that the tiara took around one month to complete.
Previously, Rinaldy’s creations have also been worn by global celebrities including Kylie Jenner, Lady Gaga, and Madonna.
For Shakira, Rinaldy crafted a tiara made from metal and wire featuring engraved details and “dodokan,” a traditional decorative element commonly associated with Indonesian jewelry design.
The headpiece was embellished with crystal stones and hanging ornaments on both sides of the head.
“I always try to deliver beautiful and the best possible work. I hope it matches and completes the total look she wanted,” he said.
Rinaldy also expressed his desire to continue learning and creating better works in order to help promote Indonesian culture on the global stage.
“Our diverse culture is a source of wealth and identity that we can be proud of,” he said. “I love creating works and celebrating culture for Indonesia and the world.”
