Russia Urges Foreign Diplomatic Missions to Flee Kyiv

Sedang Trending 1 jam yang lalu

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it has sent a note to all foreign diplomatic missions and accredited international organizations in Russia to evacuate their personnel from Kyiv.

This step follows a warning from the Russian Ministry of Defense regarding alleged Ukrainian threats against Moscow during the upcoming Victory Day on May 9.

In its statement, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged foreign governments and international organizations to "treat this statement with the utmost seriousness and to ensure the timely evacuation from the city of Kiev of the personnel of diplomatic and other missions, as well as civilians," from the Ukrainian capital.

Moscow has signaled the possibility of launching a retaliatory attack on Kyiv if Ukraine indeed carries out an attack during the Victory Day celebrations.

The Ministry also mentioned that Russian diplomatic representatives in various countries have conveyed information about the situation to relevant governments and international organizations.

Previously, on Monday, May 4, 2026, the Russian Ministry of Defense cautioned that any attempt to disrupt the 81st anniversary of the Soviet Union's victory in the Great Patriotic War could trigger a massive missile attack on central Kyiv.

Victory Day, commemorated every May 9, is one of the most important national days in Russia to honor the Soviet Union's victory in World War II. The Kremlin has previously confirmed that the military parade at Red Square will proceed, albeit without showcasing military equipment for security reasons.
