Trump Says Iran Ceasefire Is 'On Life Support'

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - United States (US) President Donald Trump warned that the ceasefire in the Middle East conflict was “on life support” after rejecting Iran’s latest response to a US-backed peace proposal.

Trump’s remarks came amid growing tensions following stalled negotiations aimed at ending the war involving Iran and regional actors. The US president signaled that Washington was dissatisfied with Tehran’s position and suggested that the fragile ceasefire could collapse if no breakthrough is achieved.

In response, Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf said Tehran was prepared to retaliate against any attack.

“Our armed forces are ready to respond and to teach a lesson for any aggression,” Qalibaf wrote on X as quoted by DW.

He also criticized Washington’s approach to the negotiations, saying that “bad strategy and bad decisions always lead to bad results.”

Several hours later, Qalibaf stated that there was “no alternative” for the United States but to accept Iran’s proposed 14-point peace plan.

The exchange of warnings comes as diplomatic efforts to secure a broader regional ceasefire remain uncertain. Earlier reports indicated that Tehran had submitted its response to the latest US proposal through Pakistani mediators.

Meanwhile, media reports have also suggested that the United Arab Emirates had allegedly carried out covert operations against Iran, further intensifying tensions in the region. However, no official confirmation regarding the reports has been issued publicly.

The latest developments underscore the fragile state of negotiations as both Washington and Tehran continue to exchange sharp rhetoric while attempting to avoid a wider regional escalation.
