TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - TV Tempo journalist Andre Prasetyo Nugroho sent an emergency video message or SOS after the Israeli army abducted the humanitarian mission convoy Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0 in the waters of the Eastern Mediterranean. After being unreachable, Andre sent a 53-second video to the Global Peace Convoy Indonesia (GPCI) team.
The video is one of the protocols prepared by the participants of the Global Sumud Flotilla voyage. The participants were asked to record an emergency message to be published if the Israeli army captured them or cut off their communication during the mission. "If you friends have watched this video, it means I have been captured by the Zionist regime of Israel," said Andre in the video, quoted on Monday night, May 18, 2026.
According to Andre, the capture shows that Israel is still committing genocide and massacres in Gaza. He also noted that the humanitarian movement trying to deliver aid to Gaza continues to be intercepted or hijacked by the Israeli army. "This is a sign that this regime cannot be forgiven anymore," said Andre.
Andre also urged President Prabowo Subianto to continue supporting humanitarian movements such as Global Sumud Flotilla and to remain committed to humanitarian values. He hoped that Indonesia would continue to fight for the issue of Palestinian independence.
In addition to Andre, the Israeli army also captured eight other Indonesian citizens. Some of them work as journalists, namely Rahendro Herubowo from iNews TV, as well as Bambang Noroyono and Thoudy Badai Rifan Billah from Republika.
Other Indonesian citizens who were also part of the convoy are Herman Budianto Sudarsono, Ronggo Wirasanu, Asad Aras Muhammad, and Hendro Prasetyo. They are part of the GPCI convoy.
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemns the Israeli military's action of intercepting a number of ships in the international humanitarian mission convoy Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0. The Indonesian government also urges Israel to immediately release all the ships and crew of the international humanitarian mission held captive.
"We also urge the Israeli government to ensure the continuation of humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people in accordance with international humanitarian law," said Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang to Tempo on Monday night, May 18, 2026.
Yvonne said that the Directorate of Indonesian Citizen Protection at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has coordinated with the Indonesian Embassies in Ankara, Cairo, and Amman. This step was taken to ensure the safety of Indonesian citizens and to expedite their repatriation process.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also stated that they will continue to communicate with various relevant parties to obtain the latest information regarding the condition of Indonesian citizens. Moreover, the government is preparing contingency measures, including facilitating protection and expediting repatriation if necessary. "The protection of Indonesian citizens will continue to be the top priority of the Indonesian government amid rapidly developing situations," said Yvonne.
