TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - After a nine-goal thriller at the Parc des Princes, Bayern Munich is set to face Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final at the Allianz Arena on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at 02:00 a.m. Jakarta time (WIB). With Arsenal already securing a spot in the final, Bayern must overturn a 4-5 deficit from the first leg to decide who will meet the Gunners in the title match.
PSG's attacking trio, Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, all scored against Manuel Neuer in the first leg. While Bayern managed to fight back from 2-5 to 4-5 within four minutes, they ultimately fell short. PSG now holds a vital advantage as they look to book their ticket to the final.
Statistics and history weigh heavily against the German side. Out of ten previous first-leg losses in European semi-finals, Bayern has advanced only once, defeating CSKA Sofia in the 1981-82 UEFA Cup. Conversely, PSG has won 36 out of 43 two-legged ties after winning the first meeting.
The pressure has intensified after Bayern settled for a 3-3 draw against bottom-ranked Heidenheim in the Bundesliga last weekend, with Michael Olise rescuing a point in the 100th minute. Manager Vincent Kompany made significant changes to his squad for that match. PSG also rotated their lineup in Ligue 1, resulting in a 2-2 draw against Lorient.
Nevertheless, the Allianz Arena has often been a difficult venue for PSG. Bayern has won five of their last six home matches against the Parisians, scoring 15 goals. Bayern Munich has no new injury concerns. As reported by Sportsmole, Vincent Kompany hopes Lennart Karl recovers from a thigh injury in time, though Serge Gnabry and Raphael Guerreiro remain sidelined.
Manuel Neuer, Dayot Upamecano, Alphonso Davies, Joshua Kimmich, Michael Olise, Luis Diaz, and Harry Kane are expected to return to the starting lineup. Kane aims to score in seven consecutive Champions League matches after becoming the first English player to score in six straight games.
Paris Saint-Germain suffered a major blow in the first leg as star wing-back Achraf Hakimi sustained a hamstring injury and is expected to be out for several weeks.
With Hakimi absent, Warren Zaire-Emery is likely to step into the defensive line. Fabian Ruiz may pair with Vitinha and Joao Neves in midfield, the same trio that helped PSG claim the 2024-25 title.
PSG is also missing backup goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier. Meanwhile, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia needs just one goal to set a new PSG record for the most goals in a single Champions League season, having matched Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s 10-goal record last week.
