TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that at 5.61 percent, Indonesia's economic growth in the first quarter of 2026 was one of the highest among G20 countries, surpassing projections by several institutions.
Following a limited meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and the Financial System Stability Committee (KSSK) at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, on Tuesday, Airlangga conveyed that data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) showed economic growth reached 5.61 percent during the period, higher than the estimates of around 5.2 percent by several institutions, ANTARA reported.
"Our growth rate is 5.61, and this is the highest among the G20 countries. So, we are above China, Singapore, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, and even the United States," said Airlangga.
He said that household consumption grew by 5.52 percent, accompanied by a 21.31 percent increase in government consumption. Additionally, export and import trade showed positive performance, as did several sectors, including manufacturing, trade, government administration, other services, transportation and warehousing, agriculture, and construction.
"In terms of macro indicators, inflation has also been successfully suppressed to 2.42 percent, down from 3.48 percent in the previous period," explained Airlangga. In addition, he also explained that the consumer confidence index was at 122.9.
Furthermore, the trade balance also recorded a surplus of US$3.32 billion for the 71st month. Foreign exchange reserves reached US$148 billion as of March, and the balance of payments recorded a surplus of US$6.1 billion. Investment realization increased 7 percent to Rp498.8 trillion. Bank credit growth reached 9.49 percent, and third-party funds grew 13.55 percent.
"Then, of course, several things that the President is concerned about are related to capital outflow. The capital outflow was investigated and found to be caused by, firstly, the capital market, secondly, by Government Securities (SBN), and thirdly, by neutralization by Bank Indonesia Rupiah Securities (SRBI)," said Airlangga.
