Indonesia, Singapore Agree to Boost Defense Ties in Jakarta Meeting

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia, through its Defense Ministry is bolstering defense cooperation with Singapore military as part of the efforts to maintain regional stability. 

Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin met with Singapore Chief of Army Major General Cai Dexian during his visit at the ministry office on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, as posted on his official Instagram account  @sjafrie.sjamsoeddin on Thursday.

Sjafrie explained that Singapore is a strategic partner for Indonesia in the field of military cooperation.

"I emphasize that defense cooperation between Indonesia and Singapore is an integral part of the efforts to maintain regional stability," Sjafrie said.

By partnering with a neighboring country like Singapore, Sjafrie is confident that Indonesia's defense will be strengthened in safeguarding its airspace and maritime boundaries.

Sjafrie explained that during this meeting, the two parties discussed various types of cooperation that will be implemented going forward. Most of this cooperation has already been carried out by Indonesia and Singapore.

"The relationship between the Indonesian Army and the Singapore Army has been closely forged through various forums, education, joint training, and continuously evolving cooperation mechanisms, including Army-to-Army Talks," said Sjafrie.

Sjafrie hopes that this collaboration will continue to foster strong bilateral relations between Indonesia and Singapore, contributing to a conducive environment in the region.
