TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto arrived in Cebu on Thursday, May 7, 2026, to attend the 48th ASEAN Summit, where Southeast Asian leaders are set to discuss regional stability, economic resilience, and cooperation amid mounting global uncertainty.
According to Indonesia’s Presidential Secretariat, Prabowo landed at the General Aviation Terminal of Mactan-Cebu International Airport at 01:45 PM local time.
Upon arrival, Prabowo was greeted by Philippine National Security Adviser Eduardo Año and received a ceremonial welcome featuring traditional Filipino dancers, an honor guard, and a bouquet presentation from the host country.
The Indonesian president appeared wearing a cream-colored safari shirt, a black peci cap, and dark sunglasses.
One detail that drew attention during the visit was the use of the Maung MV3 Garuda Limousine, an Indonesian-made tactical vehicle developed by PT Pindad. The white vehicle, bearing the “Indonesia 1” license plate, had been prepared as Prabowo’s official transportation in Cebu.
Cabinet Secretary Lt. Col. Teddy Indra Wijaya said it marked the first time the Indonesian head of state had used the Maung vehicle during an overseas visit.
“During his time in the Philippines, the President will use a vehicle known as a tough light tactical vehicle,” Teddy said in a statement issued by the Presidential Secretariat.
He said the use of the Maung at an international event reflected the progress of Indonesia’s domestic defense industry. The vehicle was first developed when Prabowo served as defense minister under former president Joko Widodo.
According to Teddy, PT Pindad has produced around 3,200 Maung units, which have been deployed for various domestic operations and government purposes.
He added that the use of the vehicle at the ASEAN Summit symbolized Indonesia’s industrial and technological ambitions beyond its practical role as transportation.
This year’s ASEAN Summit carries the theme “Navigating Our Future Together” and is expected to focus on strengthening regional solidarity amid geopolitical tensions, global economic pressures, and supply chain uncertainty.
ASEAN leaders are also expected to discuss strategic cooperation in sectors including security, trade, energy, and food resilience.
Ahead of the leaders’ summit, ASEAN foreign ministers held a series of meetings on Thursday, including the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, the ASEAN Political-Security Community Council Meeting, the ASEAN Coordinating Council Meeting, and the Joint ASEAN Foreign and Economic Ministers’ Meeting.
