TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In about three weeks, President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to inaugurate 1,000 units of Red and White Village Cooperatives, and another 25,000 units in the next two or three months.
The president announced this plan while delivering a speech at the groundbreaking ceremony for the second phase of 13 national strategic projects today, Wednesday, April 29, 2026.
"In possibly two to three weeks, we will inaugurate 1,000 Red and White Village Cooperatives," said Prabowo in Cilacap, Central Java, as quoted from a Presidential Secretariat broadcast on YouTube.
According to Prabowo, launching 26,000 cooperatives within a few months demonstrates how the project is tangible, beyond mere plans. The physical buildings for these facilities are also equipped with cold storage, drying machines, stalls, and logistics vehicles.
"Try and open up the world history books, were there 25,000, or 30,000 cooperatives being built and completed in a year?" he said.
Last February, Cooperative Minister Ferry Juliantono reported that 1,000 facilities have been built out of the targeted 80,000 cooperative units. Meanwhile, about 20,000 cooperative units were under construction, with average progress of 20 percent completion.
"Assuming it's currently at 20 percent, the construction will reach 100 percent by May," he said on February 18, as quoted by Antara.
The minister emphasized that the construction of Red and White Village Cooperatives requires thorough in order to reach optimal development.
