TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in Beijing, China, for talks with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping. Putin landed at Beijing Capital International Airport late Tuesday, May 19, 2026, local time.
Putin is visiting China at Xi's invitation, and the two leaders are scheduled to discuss ways to "further strengthen" bilateral relations, cooperation across various sectors, and "exchange views on key international and regional issues," according to the Kremlin as quoted from DW on Tuesday.
On a video message on Tuesday, Putin said that the relations between China and Russia had reached "a truly unprecedented level" and that "trade between Russia and China continues to grow."
"The close strategic relationship between Russia and China plays a major, stabilizing role globally. Without allying against anyone, we seek peace and universal prosperity," Putin said.
The two-day trip, from May 19 to 20, 2026, would be Putin's 25th visit to China, as noted by Xinhua.
The visit also came just days after Xi Jinping hosted US President Donald Trump for what he deemed a "tremendous success" of a visit.
Meanwhile, according to Xinhua, this year marks 30 years since Beijing and Moscow inked a strategic partnership of coordination and 25 years since the "China-Russia Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation" was signed.
